What are BIRDS anyhow?

• They all fly, right? No, some birds are incapable of flight.
• Only birds have wings, right? No insects have wings also.
• Only birds have pretty colors, right? No, many creatures, particularly some of the insects like Butterflies have beautiful colors.
• Only birds lay eggs, right? No other creatures lay eggs, such as snakes, lizards fish, and insects.
• Only birds have bills or a beak, right? No a platypus, which is a mammal, also had a bill.

The thing which birds have and probably no other living thing has, are FEATHERS. It is believed that some dinosaurs had feathers. HOWEVER, it is also believed that dinosaurs evolved into birds, so that is not inconsistent with the theory.
